1. Did you have to pick G3NGAR instead of GENGAR because someone took it first?
2. Is the hood real carbon fiber?
3. If you had to dye your hair a different color what would you choose?
4. If you had to pick one vehicle type (sedan, crossover, truck etc.) for the rest of your life (gas is paid for) what would you pick?

Yes (that bastard). Coincidentally I get asked why I have that plate when I’m not a ginger.
Yes actual carbon fiber.
Maybe I should go full ginger and match the plate better.

Right now nothing. It was out for a hedge trimmer. But that is the Stringbeans umbilical cord when I’m on call (sits for 2 weeks while I drive a company vehicle).

Ok, who actually makes a carbon fiber hood for a freaking Sebring?

Its actually for a Stratus sedan (interchangeable). It’s been years, was the only one left in stock and I forgot the brand.

I’m guessing it’s not the 2.7... if it is, good work sir.

Solid answers! Lol
I like the plate anyway
Is someone making carbon fiber hoods for Sebrings? I wouldn’t have thought that was being done. It does work very well on your car though. I think the color of the paint goes with it very well.
Much respect for the Zonda pick
I hadn’t seen that variation yet!

Follow up: Why would someone make a carbon fiber hood for a Stratus?

Actually it is the dreaded 2.7. But the ‘06 (I think ‘04+) were the post class action and non sludge engines. That 01-03 range... Those cylinder heads were legit fudge factories.

Probably because the Stratus RT existed and there was a small enough following that would think that’s a good idea.

Making? No. Made? Yes. A few. Apparently mine was the last the seller had access to and is actually a Stratus Sedan hood.
And yes, the Zonda and it’s 31 Flavors

Yep they were bad. Buddy had to junk his at 78K - he had it less than 7yrs, bought it new and took good care of the car. Glad you’ve had better luck!

Once I learned about the 2.7 I immediately switched to synthetic and other than some valve tick it’s been cooperative engine-wise. Everything else... Not so much. But nothing excessive or that I couldn’t fix myself.

Does it have the battery in the wheel well like the Stratus and if so, on a scale of 1 to “exploding head” how much does this annoy you.

That sounds like every FCA product since the Dodge Brothers were putting them together.
Fun fact: a good friend of mine was a Dodge, and his family owned a Lincoln-Mercury dealer.

Oh its in the wheel well for sure.
First time the battery was 100% flat. Had to swap it when it was 20° F out.
Its a pain in the ass but I just accept it as it is now.

Got myself a grown up job. Wanted a cruiser, convertible. Liked the styling and leather interior. Then it just evolved into the mutant that it is today.

I had a bad experience wrenching on one of these, and have disliked them ever since. I gotta admit- they do look kinda classy (especially in that Graphite grey color, like the ’04 2.7L that one of my brothers had). But I never drove it or anything.
So, why a Sebring? What are its best qualities that I’m clearly overlooking? Was this one a daily driver that became more than a daily driver? Please tell me it’s more than just Stockholm syndrome. I’m sure you know much more than I do about how much of a hassle these cars can be. What makes it worth it?

Oh it’s definitely Stockholm syndrome.
Its (was) a cruiser and convertible. I like the styling and leather interior. The 2.7 can go when you give it the beans.
But now that it’s been paid off for quite some time I’ve grown used to not having a car payment. Granted I will be picking up a truck soon but that’s another story .

What’s next for the Sebring? Is it just the way you like it? Any upcoming mods? Or is the truck coming to replace it?

Going to lower it again. It’ll get some new wheels and tires. I like the TSW volcanos it has now but they’re only 17 .. it can fit 18.
Ill keep it when I get the truck. The resale value is next to nothing so it’s worth far more to me.

My dad had an ‘03 Stratus SXT with the 4-cylinder. Solid car, until the head gasket went poof. Mostly because my dad didn’t take care of it, he even admitted, but it lasted us a good 10 years still. 2013 it was replaced with my CR-V. Every time I see that gen Sebring/Stratus it brings back memories.

yes, the JA/JR/JS Sebring/200 kept the battery in the wheelwell up until MY2014. which is how you can tell when someone says the ‘07-up Sebring/Avenger were on a “Mitsubishi platform” they haven’t the faintest clue what they’re talking about.

I think they got a bad rep, far worse than they warranted. After that they just became the kicking mule really. If you really look you’ll see they are everywhere though

Comfortable affordable cruiser convertible. First car after first grown up job (was 20). Paid it off then got used to no car payment and turned it into something fun. Who mods a Sebring?

I legitimately like this generation of the Sebring convertible, and I really like what you’ve done with yours. Several years ago (7 or 8ish) my sister offered me her 2005 Touring convertible for a mere $2,500. I just remember how comfy it was and that it was a convertible with a real, usable back seat. I nearly bought it, but it was bad timing.
I guess I have no questions...

Funny thing is my mother tells me it’s going to nickel and dime me to death. Sure I could spend $30 here or $60 there, but that’s not every single month like a car payment.

Owned an 06 Stratus sedan for a while. Surprisingly, they are quite fun to drive and fun to modify.
The 2.7L is a rev-happy V6 that makes decent power for a car it’s size and takes well to simple mods/tuning. The transmission is stout, quick shifting, and quite fun when shifted manually. The suspension has a decent feel in stock trim, tight/responsive, yet compliant.
Over the course of 5 yrs and 206k miles, I upgraded numerous components. Outside of upgrades and meticulous maintenance, the car never gave me an issue.

Oh sir, the things I have seen. “Performance “ mods to bodge jobs. You ask who, mostly weird old dudes who like their seabrings way too much or packleds whose ship won’t go.
